BRIEF
Portal: The Get Together | Recap Video
Portal Launch: The get together
We were tasked with launching Portal, Facebook’s first device to market for home video conferencing. With Mark Zuckerberg testifying in the Senate Hearings on Data Protection Regulations only a few months prior to the Portal announcement we recognized the challenge of promoting Facebook home device. We needed to humanize Portal and demonstrate its value to prospective customers.
With its smart camera tracking and advanced microphone capabilities Portal allows people on a call to feel like they’re in the same room together. We demonstrated this though a narrative-driven demo-experience using Portal as the tool to bring people together separated by physical distance. We called it “The Get Together”, an immersive, theatrical experience within a meticulously designed eleven-room home in the middle of New York City. Every touch point of the journey was considered and involved comedic improv with a cast of relatable family members, to distinctively styled rooms, and custom-knit sweaters.

FILM
In collaboration with animators at Buck Design, our characters were brought to life in an original teaser film.

Hot Cocoa
After passing through the mud-room guests would find themselves in a 70’s inspired kitchen where they would video chat with “Grandma Gertrude” as she showed guests how to make her world famous hot cocoa in their own take-home mugs

Storytime
Tucked away in the living room guests would crawl into the ultimate cozy blanket fort where they would be told a story from the zany “Aunt Lisa” complete with a set of AR face filters of relevant characters.

Jam Session
Guests venturing into the home studio could voice chat with Cousin Karl where they could hear the clarity of Portal in a impromptu jam session.

Card writing
Wrapping up the holiday experience in the library guests could write cards to their loved ones and mail them out on site.

Photobooth
Another take home was the custom printed greeting cards from the Photobooth that featured pattern matching robes and wallpaper.
